ACTIVITIES
here
are many activities, attractions and things to do on your visit at the Carriage House and the Southern Maine seacoast area. While
at the Carriage House take a swim in our newly renovated heated
pool or gather some sun on the lounge chairs located on our large deck
area. It's a great way to relax and have some water fun. The
pool is open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. during the summer. The pool
is centrally located on premises so that your walk from your accommodation
to the pool is a short one.
There are grills and picnic tables on the grounds for family picnics
and barbecues. While having that cookout there are plenty of activities at
the Carriage House to keep the family entertained. For the gamesters
there is: shuffleboard, horseshoes, bocce,
paddle tennis, croquet and our children's playground.
All the game areas are nearby the picnic areas so you won't have to look
far for them when it comes time to eat. |

ACTIVITIES
IN WELLS AND THE
SURROUNDING
AREAS
Look
for this sign:
to
bring you to many of the following attractions, or
just
because the trolley is "fun to ride!"
You'll
find a Wells trolley stop sign in front of The
Carriage House.
Activities
in the local area include many beautiful, sandy beaches.
Wells Beach, Drakes Island Beach,
Moody Beach and Ogunquit Beach all within six miles of the Carriage House.
Seven miles of sandy beach for you to relax, explore, walk, swim, and ride
those waves. Of course, the bold might try some para-sailing at Watersports
of Wells, located at Wells Harbor Road or at the Atlantic Ave. Harbor
Dock. They also provide boat rides.
Other activities in the area include: scuba diving, snorkeling, deep sea
fishing, whale watching, kayaking.
For the landlubber, there is golfing at nearby Merriland Farm, which
features a par 3 golf course and a cafe. There are other competitive
golf courses also nearby. For the family, there are three places
along Route 1 in Wells where you may play mini golf.
For the bicyclists, bike rentals are available for hourly and daily rental
at Wheels and Waves on US Route 1 in Wells. Wells has a new
bicycle path in construction available for summer 2000.
For the naturalists, Wells has The Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge and the
Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve at Laudholm Farm. There
are paths to walk, and the wonders of nature to observe. Very relaxing
atmosphere.
There
are many fine, casual restaurants in the area which feature seafood and
steak, as well as excellent desserts. You will have many options
for dining in the area.
Wells has many rare bookstores, antique dealers and small shops that will
amuse and entertain, and allow you to bring back the special item which
will remind you of your visit to Wells.
In nearby Ogunquit, you may spend an hour walking the Marginal Way,
a great seaside walking path. Perkins Cove will inspire you and you
will be enchanted by the small shops and fine restaurants on the cove.
Also, in Ogunquit is the nationally acclaimed Ogunquit Playhouse, which
brings many of your favorite stars for summer theater.
Whatever you decide to do, you will not be able to do everything that you
wanted to on your vacation, but, alas, you may always come back for another
visit and try again. We welcome you! Have fun! |
